DIY Christmas – Handmade Bookmarks

DIY Christmas – Handmade Bookmarks
Custom Timeless Series Bookmarks

So continuing on with our DIY Christmas theme, I’ve got another quick and easy idea for the book lover in your group!

Handmade bookmarks are not only great gifts because they come from the heart, but also because this time of year you can find ribbons and such at great prices!

I’ve been making bookmarks for a while now. I created a line for my book series where I embroider “Timeless Series” on crushed velvet ribbon which I special order. I then take the time to create unique custom charms to go on the ends. Check them out here.

I also create crushed velvet bookmarks without any embroidery on them and sell them on Etsy. Click here to check them out.

Now, the crushed velvet is great, they’re beautiful…but the ribbon can be a bit costly. So while shopping at Hobby Lobby last week for the Infinity Scarves material, I ran across their ribbon in the sewing department at 50% off. Of course anything with 50% off typically catches my eye, so I investigated further. I found 1.5 inch ribbon at $2.00 for three yards. I was excited because I knew I could get about 12 bookmarks from a single spool of ribbon!

Each ribbon is cut to 9 inches
Look at the variety of ribbon color’s and textures.

I knew with my past bookmark making experience I had ribbon clamps to fit 1/2 inch ribbon, however, I didn’t have ribbon clamps to fit the new 1 1/2 inch ribbons I’d just purchased. I knew where to purchase them from, but needed to get them asap cuz time was running short. I quickly ordered them from Artfire, which is the only place I’ve found online with descent pricing on them, and was quickly on my way to creating some incredible custom made bookmarks for my friends and family members (FYI: I received my order within three business days!)

After assembling the bookmarks by attaching the ribbon clamps, I then used my jewelry making supplies and created some unique charms to attach to the ends. Now, if you don’t make jewelry or even have the slightest idea of what I’m talking about, you can go to stores like JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby and pick up pre-made charms to attach to your bookmarks. The only supply you’d need with them would be “jump rings” to attach the charm to the ribbon clamp hoop.

What a simple, but yet elegant gift that can be created and given to those you cherish.

Now, because I love you guys so much, and because you’ve read this blog post, I’m going to be GIVING AWAY, 5 bookmarks! Yup, that’s right! All you need to do is comment below on which bookmark you like, and once I get 10 comments I’ll chose the random winners creating them a custom ribbon bookmark!
