Modified Leg Warmers

Modified Leg Warmers

I love the look of leg warmers! What can I say? I loved them when I was younger and they were “in” too…and now that probably dates me.

Anyway, when I was younger I was, um…thinner, didn’t have the womanly curve’s that I do now. Okay, to be honest I still don’t have womanly curves, I’m built like an ironing board. No matter which way you turn me it’s the same, flat. However, the one thing that has changed is the scale number, yup, it’s just a fact of life. You get older, and that stuff likes to stick on you more than it used to. Personally I find it easier to just rub the food on my body and then rise it off rather than eat it and then have to work out for like three hours just to lose an ounce!

Whew…

So anyho…I also don’t have skinny legs. Nope, my dad used to tell me when I was younger that I had legs like a football player, and then, of course, my mom would get all over him and tell him to stop because he was going to give me a complex–too late. lol. My dad loved to tease me, still does, and I love that about him. But I really didn’t have football player leg’s, whatever that truly meant, but I do have what my husband lovingly calls athletic legs. Which in turn means they’re not skinny and wearing skinny jeans…well it can be a chore.

The same applies to boots. My calves are not super model skinny, nope, they’re athletic, and that’s fine with me, however, trying to get boot socks, jeans, and leg warmers stuffed into the boot, um yeah, it’s a chore. So, I had an idea…

You really only see the top portion of the leg warmer sticking outside your boot, so why not just chop them in half? And that’s exactly what I did! Of course, you have to deal with the now loose knitted material, but I had an easy fix that actually gave me versatility too! I decided to go purchase some lace and stuff from Jo-Ann’s and see what I could create.

I did stretch the material a little while sewing the lace onotherwise you might run into some problems later, like the lace not stretching to fit over your calf.

It was actually very easy. I just sewed lace to the inside of the cut-off leg warmer. Why? Because I wanted to roll it down over my boot. If I flip it right-side out, then the original part of the leg warmer will hug my calf. You see? I get to have two different looks with one pair. And the real bonus is that I get to reuse the other half of the leg warmer and create something unique for someone else (like my niece and sister who have already called dibs on them).

The other side benefit is that the boot socks, skinny jeans, and full leg warmer will no longer cut off all circulation to my calf, and thus I shall be able to walk for miles if I chose!!! Of course, I’ll probably choose not to, but you never know.

Cute, right? I added the little white flowers because I wanteda little extra bling.

Okay, so I know they look a bit “stretched out”, but I did thaton purpose because I wanted it to roll down over the boot cuff.Once they’re washed they’ll reshape themselves.

Ah yes…my helper Taylor who was once again trying to stealthem from off the table. She thinks it’s a game…crazy puppy!
